Bond, what Bond??

Hello, my dearies...

Well, the Bond I am talking about is not the covalent, ionic, etc. which we study in Chemistry. It's our Mr.James Bond, the 007 fella.

And here I am saying "What Bond?". Thinking that probably this girl knows nothing?? Aww well, no. I am quite familiar with the 007 franchise, so don't get me wrong on this one. All I am saying is that.. this one was a disappointment.. really :(

Since thursday I was frantically calling up the guys in the theatres asking them the timings for the Bond movie and they were all telling me to call back later as the schedules weren't updated by then. Okay, a day wasted. Friday, I book the tickets and sleep in the night just for the sake of it and wake up at 5:30am(automatically -- see, my excitement) on Saturday and me and my friends set off towards the theatre.

The movie started and ended. We came out feeling happy happy. And of course, a li'l bit swooning over Daniel Craig. But I wasn't entirely satisfied.

The movie wasn't any special at all!! It had no "Bond" element in it. Where was that famous line "Bond, James Bond", that "shaken, not stirred" vodka martini?? It appears as though Bond's forgotten himself!! He is still reeling under the loss of his previous girlfriend Vesper Lynd(in Casino Royale). He appears very stiff, not very charming and has seem to lost his charisma. He is all worked-up and stiff, not saying much but rather venting out his frustration by indulging in some raw hand-to-mouth fights. Baaah!! That's boring, I thought Bond was supposed to get away quickly with just a punch or two and look unhurt and suavé always but this time he is all slimy and covered in sweat and grime and looks very unpleasent. Remember how we used to marvel that those slick gadgets used in the movie? There are none here, save for his mobile phone which I am told is a Sony Ericsson fella. So then what do we have? Well, mostly action, fast cars, motor boats, flying a rickety ol' plane over a rocky terrain, etc. The stuff which you normally see in your regular Hollywood action flicks. The Girls?? Yuck!! They were a joke, seriously..!! They were brought in just so as to stick to the Bond formula(somewhat) that girls are needed. I think the story could have gone on very well without them. It didn't require them at all, it was just.. ha ha

Basically, it was thanda... When you leave the hall, you don't feel as though you've seen a Bond movie. I know I am stressing a lot on this fact but if you were in my shoes you would do the same. The Bond fever has subsided now... The Bond magic was 0 in this one. Daniel Craig seems like just another actor we have to look out for. Well, he does act well and carry it off with élan but there's room for improvement. There's no wry humour, all very dark and serious and gets a bit depressing in the middle.

But if you wish to see it -- go ahead!! You will enjoy the action and stuff in the movie hall but don't expect any thing "Bond" at all. I am not too happy with this one and I doubt if you shall be. For once I shall agree with the journo who reviews movies every week for the newspaper and rate it 2.5 on a 5... Sorry guys, Casino was better but Casino wasn't any better when it came out.

So, well, go watch it at your own risk..!!

Au Revoir!!
